I think the picture of the girl on the cover might lead people to believe this is a light-hearted story about a rich girl. There are themes on race, colonization, gender, sexism, and there are incest overtones. The depictions of violence are more fantastical but gore-y. I don't recall explicit sexual content but there are definitely "sensual" scenes, if that makes sense. (less)
