What is the most difficult part of your artistic process, when creating each new series? I do appreciate the time you take for each series development and can never get enough. There's only three main authors I collect every book from and I am glad you are one of them.

Mostly I enjoy all of what I do during the artistic process. I do a lot of very deep research including talking to primary sources, online research and research books. As a rule I love that. But, if the research is more of an emotional issue, especially if it's something personal to me, something I've experienced in some way, that can be very challenging.

First, I wish to say that I hope you are recovered and well, love all your books. I’m wondering how you base your characters? They seem so real to me, like they could be my neighbor, my co-worker, my friend which is why I seem to get so drawn into your different worlds. Is there a formula that you use? Do you base them on people you know/have known?
