This Series or Mistborn series first?

Sienna Luprano Honestly you can go both ways, but in my opinion mistborn should come first for a few reason.
First off, it's a much, MUCH more self contained series/book then Stormlight, and in more ways then one. Each book is it's own story with only a few loose thread left at the end (especially book one). Because of that, you can easily just stop reading whenever you want and still get a satisfying and complete story. Second though, both this and Stormlight are part of a greater universe called the Cosmere, which includes every adult fantasy book from this author (minus the Wheel of Time, since that was just him finishing off another author's work). The cosmere is extremely intricate but as I said earlier, Mistborn is much more self contained and doesn't include to much universe expending details, and the ones that are there will be missed by anyone who doesn't have a greater understanding of the cosmere. The Stormlight archive on the other hand ties into it much more, especially since (and I'm really gonna try not to get into spoilers here) one of the main side character (not gonna say which one, and let you figure it out when you read it) is a character that spans the entire cosmere, and is one of the things liking all the series together. That character also appears in mistborn, but you can't tell who he/she is unless you read mistborn secrete history.

This other point is going to include some of my speculations so take all this with a grain of salt (please still read though because I'll end with points that apply either way), but is you haven't read either of these then I'm guessing you haven't read that much high adult fantasy since they are both really big series in this genre that people usually go to first. If that's the case, then I recommend Mistborn even more because it is much smaller in scale (when it comes to both world and plot/characters). If I'm wrong and you have read a lot of high fantasy before, and maybe even are coming over from having finished the wheel of time series, then stormlight is definitely fine to start with. I still think mistborn is better to begin with if you're trying to get into the cosmere, but i the end it's up to you.
Trong Tran It depends honestly. I personally think you should read Mistborn. It's faster compared to this, however - this book is better ( and many fans would agree to it ) as it has much more depth and ability to paint the entire world.
Christian Saenz Chronologically speaking this one is first, at least the first book , but I would recommend reading Mistborn first, specially if it's your first time reading Sanderson.
