Once you have your idea for your story, think about where you want it to go. Then, try to create the biggest emotional swings you can so the reader is taken on the wildest ride possible (make the happy parts REALLY happy and the sad parts REALLY sad). Everything about your protagonists' journey should be hard! They have to earn their ending.
