The best thing is the ability to help the future. It may seem like an obscure answer but I really love that even when I'm dead, my books will still be on the shelves in the library or on somebody's kindle. I like believing that I live between the lines of my books and when someone is helped, inspired, or excited by work I know I've made a difference.
