I feel like "the groomsmen" were a sort of group character of their own, and this untied end felt to me to be a reflection of how Foley used the characters for the plot instead of leaning into them as actual three-dimensional people.

But, I guess someone HAD to die as a result of stupidness around the bog after all of the warnings that were out there about it. At the same time though.... come on? A murder AND an accidental death at the same wedding????(less)
