Does anyone have thoughts about why the author included the affair between Lennox and Winsome? I can not think of what that was supposed to mean? or represent? Why was that in the story?

Evaristo hates Shirley!
She's the plainest, meanest, of the 12 women of this book. And she's the only one with explicit homophobic behavior. Her husband having an affair with her mother behind her back is Evaristo's evil to Shirley ;-)(less)
