xkmimixk asked M.L. Rio:

I have just finished IWWV because one of my best friends recommended it to me and it has become my favourite book!!! I have been reading the comments about the ending and in my opinion, it is the ending that this story needed, thank you for making such a piece of art in form of a book, I am expecting to read more of your work thank you so much! My question is: did you reflect yourself in any of the characters?

M.L. Rio I'm glad to hear the book resonated so strongly with you and that you liked the ending! As for your question, I think it's impossible for an author to completely remove themselves from any part of the writing process--that simply isn't how art works. (Even if you're writing a character who is nothing like you, your portrait of that character will be colored by your own life experience.) That said, I didn't write any self-inserts or characters who are supposed to be stand-ins for myself. There are certainly some who are more like me than others, but none of them are autobiographical.
