Stacey Mckeogh This question and answers show how far we’ve come in women’s rights....this book, the treatment of the women and the attitudes of the men ring true to me. The fact that they we can now question them and see that they are completely wrong and frustrating is a good thing 😍
Barbara Agreed. It was very frustrating. I wanted there to be some sort of consequence for treating their wives like dirt.
Tressa The men didn't have to do any of the hard, gory work, that's for sure. But financially and reputation-wise they were ruined.
Sonja YES!! 100% true! HOW did the 'great psychiatrist' Carter Campbell not see this as a problem!? And how ludicrous that he gave his wife pills and did not read more into her taking too many of them! Badly done on his part, but he was a self-absorbed ignorant idiot who got what he deserved in the end - even though he'll never know his 'just a housewife's' hand in it or that she was (hello!) right all along!
To me the rats scene was very telling - as was the behavior of Mrs. Savage! That is NOT normal! How could that be ignored?!
Kelly I agree! The consolation is that the men were proven to be idiots. Every time someone poured cold water on Patty's theory, I screamed. The evidence was so overwhelming!

Rebecca Eros They may have gotten off lightly, but 1.) I felt like it rang true, and 2.) I didn't feel like this was really a book about the men.

A Reader Vivian The men in this book are pigs. Why write a clueless protagonist who is undermined by her arrogant husband? Sucks the life out of the plot.I find the plot uneven and infuriating. My turning point was the rat scene.

Friday Jack They've lost what they apparently valued the most
Brianna Including Hendrix himself? Yes.
Brant Bush Part of me really wants my mother to read this book. My biological father used to threaten my mother with taking me from her and putting her into a mental institution and he can be just as much of a piece of shit as Carter.

The other parts worry about the gore, fantasy, and violence of it. My mom today reminds me of Patty quite a bit, back in the 90s. My mother was most definitely more of a Slick-type personality.
Hannah Definitely wanted Carter to get eaten.
MsBrie At least she got the kids and the divorce. Heck, at least she got the divorce!
Shannon Mckenzie Yes! I was really angry they didn't get what was coming to them, other than losing money. That being said, I think it is a good representation of the 80's and how women were treated.
