Goodreads asked J.L. Rothstein:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

J.L. Rothstein I once heard another writer talk about writers block. I'm paraphrasing but he essentially said he doesn't believe it exists. That when you're stuck, you should understand that it's just your subconscious mind telling you that you've hit a dead end. You have gone down the wrong path in your story and to correct it you need to go backward until you find your way.

I know that's easier said than done, but I think there is something to it. Our minds are powerful and if we took our story to the wrong place, it may just stop us cold in order to force us to correct course.
