Goodreads asked J.L. Rothstein:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

J.L. Rothstein I am only just published, my first novel is out now. So far, it's the self-promotion that's been the most challenging. If you're expecting to write a book, publish it and see it be wildly successful, you are going to be disappointed. With the dawn of self-publishing most writers see their first book as promotional material, something to be given away. It's all building a brand, that can be tough to swallow. There is a lot to learn, so brace yourself to work just as hard after launch as you did to write it.
