(view spoiler)[In an interview you mentioned that you had misplaced the pages for the princes in the tower.
Is this that story? Or did you rewrite it for this purpose?
Second was this always Markham’s origin? You said that he was not always going to survive, would this still have been part of his backstory?
I hope this is understandable, without revealing too much. Thanks for the wonderful stories. This one was astonishing. (hide spoiler)]

Hi Elizabeth. I did - I lost 20k words about the princes in the tower and was a trifle peeved about it. However, it turned out to be a Good Thing in the end because I was able to re-write. This version is considerably different to the original lost version. I didn't have any definite backstory for Markham - initially he was going to die bravely, but I rather liked him as a character and he was easy to write and I was enjoying myself inventing new skills and knowledge for him with every new book. He was as much a mystery to me as everyone else. A couple of books ago - I think around about Book 8 - it dawned on me I was going to have to account for him and who he was. I had a couple of quite conventional ideas and then thought - as Markham probably would have himself - Nah, go large. So I went large. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Best wishes, Jodi.

Having just been re-reading Josephine Tey's excellent The Daughter of Time, imagine my surprise when I saw mention of a Markham who wrote a history of Richard the Third in the nineteenth century. Is that where you got the name for your character? (Given, you know, the connection.)

Hi Jodi. I have become a huge fan of the Chronicles of St Mary's books, and I started reading them around the same time that I was writing my first book, so they've become a big inspiration and aspiration as far as cohesive plots with likeable characters. I wanted to ask if you sometimes get an idea, then work it into a St Mary's plot as you're already rolling with them, and if you have some ideas reserved for later?
