Goodreads asked Jill C. Baker:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Jill C. Baker Do something else, ideally something that's creative or totally different: take a walk, listen to music, work in the garden, sit on the floor in a different room with a yellow pad and think. Sometimes, if I find myself in a corner (plot, logistics, dates), I go to bed thinking about my challenge and usually wake up with an idea. Also, cut yourself some slack. Sure you 'have to' write 5 pages, but if you really want to research a detail, play with a poem, or work on your cover, do that. Usually clearing one's head of that nagging 'want,' helps you focus on the thing you need to do. And remember, perfection is not a requirement of writing. Just start -- and see where it goes. You can always delete or save it for later.
