Goodreads asked Jill C. Baker:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jill C. Baker Write. Don't agonize. Don't overthink. Let it flow -- and don't forget that writing can take many forms: not just literary. Study it. Learn from the pros. Consider various disciplines: copywriting, reporting, speechwriting, scripting, poetry, research, blogging etc. Try to get some credits or bylines. Use these to build a portfolio (with online links). For your mental health, separate "writing for others" (commercially motivated, where you get paid) from "writing for yourself" (just for the joy, where you may not). Eventually, those may merge. Date, label your files with version number, and back up your work. Back up your work. Back up your work -- on an external hard drive, USB stick, cloud Platform, or just mail it to yourself. You won't regret it.
