Bracken asked Lawrence Wright:

How does your research for non-fiction books compare to the research you conduct for books like The End of October? Are there any details gleaned from your time in journalism or writing non-fiction that you incorporated into the novel?

Lawrence Wright I never really take off my journalist cap. So much of this book arose from experiences I had as a reporter. For instance, there's a section in the book that takes place in Saudi Arabia. After 9/11, I couldn't get into the kingdom as a reporter, so I took a job--mentoring young reporters at a newspaper in Jeddah, bin Laden's hometown. One of my first tasks was overseeing our coverage of the hajj. When you read the book, you'll see how valuable that experience was for me.
