wladowski asked Lawrence Wright:

Please, tell us about your favorite books!?

Lawrence Wright Impossible question! I can tell you a few books or authors that made me want to be a writer: Hemingway (I'm of that generation), especially "The Sun Also Rises" and "The Nick Adams Stories." A. J. Liebling's wonderful account of Louisiana politics, "The Earl of Louisiana," which made me want to write for The New Yorker. Saul Bellow's "Henderson the Rain King." Gunter Grass's "The Tin Drum." Ben Hecht's memoir "A Child of the Century." Robert Penn Warren's "All the King's Men." I'm aware these books are all half a century or more old, but those are the ones that lit the flame.
