Like your other books, "The End of October" is very well researched. Did the research influence the storyline, or did you have that lined out before writing (and research) began?

Lawrence Wright Good question! Research was absolutely the key to solving the story. I had to really understand the science, and the world the scientists live in, to formulate a plausible story. Also, meeting all these experts and diving into the lore of epidemiology opened up possible narratives that would never have occurred to me otherwise.
