A Goodreads user asked S.L. Eaves:

Your debut work, The Endangered, is a combination of fantasy-folklore, science-fiction, and crime/action. What drew you to this combination? Was there any element that was easier or more difficult to write?

S.L. Eaves Hi Evan! So sorry for the late response, I just saw this post. Great question. I liked the challenge of blending genres, I think it helps keep the story less predictable and gives the writer a lot to work with within the different tropes. I am a big detective fiction fan, so that element came more naturally. I'm also a big fan of vampire stories, even took some college coursework on eastern european folklore - but this was the most difficult part b/c so much iconography is already preconceived in popular culture - it was a challenge to write vampires and werewolves that were recognizable to readers and avoid being too cliche (or at least try to).
