True, there is no gore or sex, other than the one mentioned by another user and the instance where one child explains to the other that to make a baby "you put a penis inside a vagina"; but one of the characters is the son of Antichrist and has disturbing thoughts and vision expressed pretty vividly, and while the message of the book is a positive one I think a lot of the subtleties would go over my 9 years old's head. I already passed it on to my 12-year old but will wait to give it to my own 9 year old for a few years. (less)
