where did you get the idea to set your story in Texas? Is there a certain house you based it of of?

Many years ago I fell in love with an old house in Fentress, built in about 1875. I was lying on the couch in the parlor in the middle of one very hot summer and I thought, I wonder how people stood it in this house 100 years ago? And just like that, a voice came into my head with the answer. That voice basically narrated a short story that I got wrote down. I showed the story to my writing group and they all pushed me to turn it into a novel. Sadly, the house was struck by lightning in 2010 and burned to the ground. The only good news is that we were not there when it happened.
