Jacqueline Kelly HI Joanna, thanks for getting in touch. Glad to hear you and your daughter enjoyed them. I'm not working on another Calpurnia book at the moment but I have recently signed a contract to turn the books into a streaming series. It's early days yet but I hope it happens!
Cheers,
JK
Jacqueline Kelly Hi Jennifer, it took me about 18 months to write it. The sequel took me about 12 months. Glad you are enjoying it! It’s been turned into a musical in San Diego at the Lambs Players Theatre in March.
Jacqueline Kelly Hello Pearl, thanks for your kind words. I did toy with the idea of a third book for some time but I've gone off in a different direction for now. You might be interested to know that there is a Calpurnia stage musical in the works but it won't be out for while. All the best, JK

Jacqueline Kelly My writing schedule has fallen apart. I'm not getting much done and all my writing friends are saying the same thing. It's a shame because it seems like right now would be a really good time to get a bunch of stuff finished.
Jacqueline Kelly I love writing about Travis and his hopeless devotion to unsuitable pets.
Jacqueline Kelly it varies greatly because I am still working at my other job. When I have a free day, I generally write 3-4 hours. After that my brain gives up, even when I serve it large amounts of coffee.
Jacqueline Kelly Many years ago I fell in love with an old house in Fentress, built in about 1875. I was lying on the couch in the parlor in the middle of one very hot summer and I thought, I wonder how people stood it in this house 100 years ago? And just like that, a voice came into my head with the answer. That voice basically narrated a short story that I got wrote down. I showed the story to my writing group and they all pushed me to turn it into a novel. Sadly, the house was struck by lightning in 2010 and burned to the ground. The only good news is that we were not there when it happened.
Jacqueline Kelly Yes, and it is pitched to younger readers with lots of illustrations. He may be able to read the books on his own.
Jacqueline Kelly Thanks for the nice compliment, I don’t yet know the answer. My publisher is the one who decides.
Jacqueline Kelly In talks with Disney to turn the first two books into a streaming series. We shall see.
