Samantha asked Jacqueline Harvey:

Hi! I'm a huge of fan of Alice-Miranda! I met you once at an event in Orange, NSW. I just want to know, what's your favourite part about writing for children? Is it easier than writing for adults? Or do you find it hard to write books with vocabulary that young children will understand?

Jacqueline Harvey Hi Samantha. That's a tricky question as there are so many great parts to being a children's author. I love when you have a new idea that just won't leave you alone. I love the time when the story begins to brew and you can't wait to get back it every day. I don't think writing for children is any easier than writing for adults. But you do have to be in touch with your inner child -that helps. I don't tend to 'dumb down' the vocabulary at all. I love writing books that will challenge children to learn new words. Just yesterday when I was editing Alice-Miranda in the Outback my editor and I discussed whether I should change a word in case children wouldn't know it and I said I thought they could probably get it in context but wouldn't it be good if they also asked or looked it up. Thanks for your question. Stay well :)
