Anne
Anne asked N.K. Jemisin:

How often do you and Scalzi chat?

N.K. Jemisin About as often as you see on Twitter, plus occasionally in DMs. When we have time at cons, we go to lunch or something.

More Answered Questions

Allen Herring
Allen Herring asked N.K. Jemisin:

Hello. I recently reread "The City Born Great" (Great Story!) in preparation for reading the The City We Became. I read that the short inspired the book. Did you find yourself adapting the short and retaining the main character or did you find yourself taking the idea and expanding the narrative with no regard to characters and set pieces? Or, were you inspired to write the book first and test tone voice in short?

Ryan Goldfine
Ryan Goldfine asked N.K. Jemisin:

We are enamored with all of your writing! A source of contention in our household is whether the orogenes in the Broken Earth are an allegory of anything in particular?

Luísa Ferreira
Luísa Ferreira asked N.K. Jemisin:

How do you balance world building and character scenes? I was enchanted by how well you handled "the broken earth" trilogy (even if the first book does start a little slow bc of world building mechanics).
