First I am so excited for your new novel, THE CITY WE BECAME. I have been tearing through your books and loving the world-building, excitement, character development, etc. in each one so far. I just have a simple question - have you ever developed a character after a close friend or family member?

you write chars with tons of different intersections, but weirdly this is not something that most novelists are doing. do you have any advice for folks lagging behind on writing from other's (esp marginalized & invisible) perspectives? & do you have any sff recs that have Xs of poc, queer, neurodivergent, polyam (agh word limit) chars that aren't like "bro, what if , bro?" tysm 4 everything!!
