I first got into you through the Inheritance trilogy and absolutely adore the series. Now my sister introduced me to your Mass Effect Andromeda book Initiation. I absolutely love Mass Effect, and I love your work, so you can see why I’m excited. :) How’d you get that gig? Were you already familiar with the series, was it a learn as you go thing, how does one go about writing in the universe of such a large franchise?

I can't speak to Bioware's side of the story 'cause nobody told me, but basically I was raving one day on Twitter about how much I loved the ME trilogy, and then an editor from the publisher doing the tie-in novels contacted me to ask if I wanted to write one. Obvs I said yes! I am deeply familiar with the game series.

Hello. I recently reread "The City Born Great" (Great Story!) in preparation for reading the The City We Became. I read that the short inspired the book. Did you find yourself adapting the short and retaining the main character or did you find yourself taking the idea and expanding the narrative with no regard to characters and set pieces? Or, were you inspired to write the book first and test tone voice in short?
