Thea Stayton
Thea Stayton asked N.K. Jemisin:

Duuude!! If you ever come to Portland I wanna buy you a beverage! I have so enjoyed your books and how you manage to surprise me and keep true to character, world and plot. My question: while squeezing writing around your day job, what are your typical strategies to keep the juices flowing and what have you resorted to when the muses get voy?

N.K. Jemisin My muses don't ever really leave me; I've never had a problem with writers' block or whatever. As for squeezing writing around the day job, I've said this elsewhere, but: get robots. Anything you can do to save time will help you write. I got a Roomba as a gift a few years back; spent one of my first writing checks on a countertop dishwasher; as a gift to myself for winning a Hugo I bought a Litter Robot. An hour spent doing stuff you don't need to do is an hour you could be spending on yourself, i.e. your writing. Especially if you've got other obligations like a day job or your family!
