Can you describe the struggles you faced as you were working, writing, researching for your first book? Did you experience a lot of rejection, feelings of failure and obscurity? What motivated you to keep going? Do you have advice for struggling, broke artists who are working towards finishing their projects and sending their work out into the world?

Sorry, but that's like 20 years' worth of blog posts; I can't really answer that one quickly, lol! The only advice I have to offer is what other writers have told me: Persist. If you're producing good work, you'll break in, because people need it. If you're not yet producing good work, persist until you are. Just... persist.

Mine is a process question... sort of. As a writer, I sometimes struggle to remember that the book I pick up off the shelf isn't the author's first draft. It's not what fell out of the authors mind and onto the page. How different are your finished drafts from your first drafts, and have you developed a standardized revision process that you follow when you go back and start the process?
