Angel
Angel asked Christine Feehan:

How do you come up with the concept, idea, for your books? Does the next book series enter your mind as you’re writing the current one? How do you know it’s time to end the series?

Christine Feehan It starts out with an idea for a single book. All of my books can be read as stand-alone books because that’s my approach with my writing. As I write a book, I start to see the landscape of characters, places and potential.
I’m inspired by everything around me. The wind through the trees, a man in a restaurant leaning to whisper to a woman, the way an animal moves. Anything can inspire me. My Shadow series was inspired by watching my dogs run in and out of shadows. Life around me can inspire some wild ideas in my head.
Like I said, each book is a stand-alone story. You should be able to pick up any book, as a rule, and start reading from any point in the series.
As far as to when to end a series, that's either dictated by the limited number of characters (Drake Sisters/Sea Haven Series) or intuition.
