Valerie asked Gary J. George:

Thank you for replying. I understood that to be the case but was wondering why it was disguised in the novels?.

Gary J. George As I mentioned in the second part of my answer, although the Mojave Desert is huge, Needles is very small. I didn't want people speculating about who some of the characters were. In fact, that has already happened. Apparently there was quite a discussion in town about the real life identities of some of the characters in "The House of Three Murders." Actually, although impressions of the town and the area come from my own experiences, the characters do not have real life counterparts. In fact, not even the events do. There really was a place in the river bottom near Needles known as the house of three murders, but what actually happened there and when it happened are nothing like what happens in the novel.
