I wondered if there might be a sequel since there is enough left untold for one: Did Vivi leave her property to Molly or Terry or her daughter or her nieces and nephews? Did Vivi's daughter want to meet Maisie's family? Did Molly win the prize & what did she end up going with herself? Did Dina ever get comeuppance? I get that none of those NEED answers, but there is enough for another novel? :)

Hi Casey - I don't plan to write a sequel at the moment, but you never know! These are all such good questions. These characters felt so real to me that the story was, in the end, like real life: that is, hard to predict. I wasn't sure what would happen next, whether Molly would win the prize or whether Vivian would reach out to Maisie's relatives. I think those kinds of questions are interesting to ponder, and your guess is probably as good as mine. Thanks for reaching out!

Throughout the novel, Orphan Train, the theme and idea of "fate" stood out to me as something that played a large role in the decisions that Vivian made. I was wondering what your thoughts are on how Vivian perceived fate and what roles that played throughout the novel? Also, do you feel that the idea of fate led Vivian to both moments of happiness and depression?

I just finished A PIECE OF THE WORLD. Now I am reading everything I can find about the subjects of this very good story. Thank you for brings to life the complexities of relationships, being handicapped, and unmet desire. This book has given me a lot to ruminate about and has opened my eyes to a world I have known little to nothing about. Did Walton Hall ever know of the painting? Thank you.

Hi Christina, You came to our library (Haverford Township Free Library) for an author luncheon for the One Book event in Phila. We sat at the same table. I haven't read this book yet but it looks great. I am trying to get a pre-pub. Are there any discussion questions online for this book? I am thinking of making a book club bag for our library as we did for Orphan Train. Thank you for your time.
