Before you visited your ancestral home did you first do any book and archival research? Did you manage to establish any contacts there before you went? I did and found it very valuable.

Lisa Sachs Yes, a year before going to Hungary, I researched that part of my family. While I started with almost nothing, I learned a little about my family. Although I wasn't able to make any connections to my family, my husband and I did spend Shabbat at the progressive synagogue Sim Shalom. None of the people there were my relatives, but I felt that I had found my roots. It was a very transformative experience.
