I have been in deep depression for at least the last 5 years. No combination of medicines from my psychiatrist has helped at all. Do you have any advice on what I should do next?
Natasha Tracy
Hi Don,
If you read "Lost Marbles", you'll see that in the Appendices, there are treatment algorithms that can help you make treatment decisions. You may wish to review that to make sure you covered all the medication combinations that might work in your case.
As for treatments outside of medication, you may want to look into repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Because both of these work differently than medications, you may have more success with them.
Please read this for a comparison of the two: https://natashatracy.com/treatment/ne...
Make sure you get _all_ your questions answered before you move forward with either of these treatments.
Also, if you haven't had a chance to get cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), make sure you do that too.
Good luck. I know where you are and I know how desperate it can feel.

Natasha Tracy:
Your book is courageous and great; one of the best books I've read on the subject. I've suffered from lifelong depression, OCD, and social anxiety, and your book really captures the suffering of depression. I wrote a favorable review of it on Goodreads. I guess I have to put a question mark for this to go through??

Natasha Tracy:
Just wondered if you personally have experienced ECT? I had 36 treatments while in a profound depression with suicide attempt and psychotic features. It was finally discontinued because of total lack of effectiveness. Since then, decades ago, I have had significant and lasting side effects, regarding memory loss for before, during, and after the treatments, short term as well as long term, to this day.
