Colleen Hoover:
Hi, I just finished "Regretting You" I really enjoyed it. You managed to make me angry, sad, hurt and hopeful for each and every single one of your characters. My question is, how little or how much say/control over your characters do you feel you have? Do they sometimes run away from you and tell their own stories? Or do you manage rein them in, and know exactly where they're story is going from start to finish?

I outline every book, but the outlines never match the final product. The characters take over EVERY TIME. I'm not a fan of structure, routine or organization, so it doesn't bother me at all when the characters make me go in a different direction than I assumed they'd go. I find it exciting, so I run with it.

I recently read your new book All your Perfects and realized near the end that you brought up a previous character named Six from an older book (Hopeless) you wrote. So I decided to reread your older books and seen another connection Ian from Ugly love was also in November 9 as well as Tate and Miles. Is there a reason for the connections?
