Doris Mahala
Doris Mahala asked R.K. King:

How old were you when you began to write? What is your favorite genre? Do you believe in 'the wee people? Are there any female fantasy authors with whom you like to say 'had an influence on my writing? How often do you do giveaways?

R.K. King I would have been around six or eight years old when I began consciously writing on purpose. It was the early 90s, I know because most of my action figures were 90s cartoons. I began writing down the adventures I played out with those toys on our first computer, an old Macintosh.
My favorite genre is definitely horror/dark fantasy. I feel it allows for the most creative freedoms, as well as the most lasting life lessons.
If by ‘wee people you are referring to the Fae and their numerous forms, then I’d say I believe there is something that rings true in both Celtic and Arthurian myth, Avalon, etc. I, for one, avoid toadstool circles and wish to never hear the cry of a banshee in the deep of night upon the moors.
For female fantasy writers there is of course JK Rowling but I’d also include Anne Mccaffrey, Ursula le Guin, and even Katharine Applegate (Animorphs). Branching from fantasy into horror/dark fantasy I’d also include Shirley Jackson, and the grandmother of gothic horror/fantasy herself, Mary Shelley.
I do giveaways on occasion, but not super often as I’m still an up-and-comer with just the 1 book out. More soon!
