Ming asked:

Is this book influenced by "Seven Days," a Japanese manga written by Venio Tachibana?

Cristina I must say I'm not at all impressed by this. The story looks exactly like Seven Days and the so-called 'major differences' highlighted in the author's post sound to me more like vague justifications to avoid the plagiarism trap. I might be wrong but given the premises, I strongly doubt I'll be interested to give this one a go...
Kagetsuya I read the summary of the book and immediately thought: "Seven Days". Not going to read it. Thank you.
Tami yeah first thing i thought, sounds summary sounds likes it ripped straight out of 7 days
Piccu Thank you very much for pointing this out! My first reaction was also that this sounds like a copy of Seven Days, so I'd rather spend my time re-reading the manga than checking this out.
aer I read "seven days" and this sounds like......exactly the same thing???? hard pass!!
Marika Charalambous This is 7 Days. I can't believe someone actually wrote an English novel as a "unique" story. In the BL community this is plagiarism, plain and simple.

Edit - this book is getting some real traction in the BL world (which is much bigger than the author thought it would be). People are taking notice.

Driima my first thought as well and partially confirmed, when I saw the authors own review from Februar 2019 which lists 7 Days as inspiration, but also highlights the major differences

Got me curious to read this book...
Slyth Don't know, but it definitely sounds like the manga... don't know what to think of this.
Clare B. Kevin van Whye did say that "Seven Days" was an inspiration to this book. I have read the book and I see where it's influenced by "Seven Days" but I think that "Date Me, Bryson Keller" has it's own merit that is not really related to "Seven Days," but I'm biased. So be warned.
Craig M I can certainly see people’s frustration about a plot similarity with another work, though the author admits the inspiration in the acknowledgments at the end. I’m reminded that Shakespeare (whose Romeo and Juliet plays a major role in the novel) based all of his plays but one off the plots of preexisting works. Sometimes, we enjoy literature to see what the author did with a well-known story. Perhaps reading this might spark someone’s interest in reading the work it is based on.
Kaidii - Here's a tweet that might help out^^. https://twitter.com/seiyunablog/statu...
Personally, I'm taking a pass on this one because the author really just took the plot and made it into a novel which to me, is disgusting. Thank you <3.
ash Just read it and while I enjoyed it because I like this trope a lot, I kept thinking about how eerily similar the plot was to Seven Days. I kind of regret enjoying it as much as I did. I'm sure the author of Seven Days deserves better than someone ripping off her work.
Chesca (thecrownedpages) Idk, but it definitely sounds like Seven Days.
David Cox Yes but he did credit the author of Seven Days. Good book by the way.
Júlia I just tought it was a novel, because it's Seven Days all over it. I wonder, why would you do that? It's awful, rip off someone else's work.

Catherine Not doubt about it. The author attempting to westernize a (popular) Japanese BL series to make it more "realistic" is sickening.
Trishh its a copy, but "westernized"
Kathleen when i read the blurb, i had the same exact thought
