Goodreads asked C.R. Sturgill:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

C.R. Sturgill Blood Tides is actually a rewrite, 20+ years later, of a book I wrote in college. I penned the original novel, entitled The Last Pirate, when I was around 20. Then I set it on a shelf and never touched it again until last year. I read it and then rewrote it from the beginning, doing a lot more historical research (no internet in 1990...), mixing in a lot of life experience, developing deeper themes, and building a stronger love story. However, the basic story and its colorful characters remain in place. Now, why I wrote the original novel, I can't really recall. I always believed the story had potential though and thought about it off and on over the years. It was so satisfying to finally be able to complete the story and publish it.
