Margaret asked:

It appears to me that The Giver of Stars was published in Oct. 2019, and The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek was published in May 2019, so I cannot see how plagiarism could be an issue, knowing personally how long it takes to get a book published, between rewrites, editing and more editing. This is just my opinion but plagiarism seems quite implausible to me, albeit these books are about the same program?

Nancy I completely agree! No way was there enough time for all this plagiarism. And why would an established writer like Moyes do it?
Lib (Enthusiastic reader, occasional reviewer) They share the same historical event - the Pack Horse Library Project of Kentucky - so there is bound to be some similarities between the two stories. And as you say, with those publication dates, there is no way plagiarism is at play
Vicki Renee Yep, My thoughts exactly. Two authors can have two different takes on the same, real life, issue. Unless she was taking DIRECT PROSE from BOOKWOMAN it's not plagiarism.
H P This spells out the concerning timeline: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/...
G.J. Yes, the two books came out only months apart, but JJM's publisher had the other book manuscript fully finished under consideration for more than a full year before the second book came out--plenty of time to crank up the second book and feed elements from the first manuscript into the second.
Ellie Ames I enjoyed both books and they are very different from each other
