Goodreads asked Victor Lana:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Victor Lana I got the idea for 'The Stranger from the Sea' about ten years ago when I was walking along the beach and saw a man lying in the surf face down. I asked him if he needed help, and he said, "No, I'm fine." I went on my way, but then the thought of him lying there made me think what if that man had been naked and had fallen off a ship and then the ship became a spaceship and the man an alien fleeing a war on his planet.

So, I went home and wrote the first pages of what would be a short story. The story sat around a long time, but this summer I decided to give myself a summer writing challenge to turn that story into a book, and that motivated me and the book got written.
