Mary Weirdly, the non-fiction book, Farsighted, by Stephen Johnson, talks a great deal about Middlemarch and the circumstances of the author's life that contributed to the plot.
Johnson so raved about Middlemarch that I decided that I have to read it!
Aimee Outsiders by Lyndall Gordon contains an in-depth chapter about George Eliot, including lots of mentions of Middlemarch and the inspiration behind the book.
