Do you have to read The Memoirs of Lady Trent before reading this? I plan to read the first book in the series but if I don't like it I'd rather not continue if I don't have to.

You could probably catch on to the basic gist of how this world works without it, but many of the countries have be previously visited in the other series and aren't explained here. The main character's background would also make more sense having read the series. Lady Trent herself plays a cameo role at the end. And of course, this book involves massive spoilers for the final volume of the Lady Trent series.

If you really want to, you probably could do it. But it would be a better experience to read after finishing the series. (less)
