James Andrew asked Manuel Alfonseca:

I'm new to how goodreads works. While looking around I looked over your resume; it is impressive. I had a career in electronics, computer, telecommunication and solar energy. My current WIP deals with the misconception that solar energy will solve every thing. Sort of like the wind turbines, some are already at the end of their life cycle. Do you think that AI will control. most elections going forward?

Manuel Alfonseca Isaac Asimov in "The caves of steel" mentions that in the far future they'll still be trying to solve the problem of solar energy (:-) In a similar way, Jules Verne in "A working day of a journalist in the Year 2889" mentions that by that date they'll still be trying to find a cure for the common cold.

No, I don't think AI will control most elections. Control is too strong a word. At the end, the voters are people, and they are in control, although it seems to be quite easy to deceive them. But remember what Abraham Lincoln said: "You can deceive everybody for some time, and a few people all the time, but you can't deceive everybody all the time," or something like this.

This is a thread of posts in my blog about AI: http://populscience.blogspot.com/2017...
