(view spoiler)[A new friend's book club is reading Ask Again, Yes and she directed me to this page. Interesting plot concept. Like that your first novel, The Walking People, was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award (my grandfather and Hemingway were lifelong friends and met driving an ambulance for the Red Cross during WWI), and your second novel, Fever, was named a best book of 2013 by NPR Books (I'm a NPR junkie). Favorite of all time, probably William Trevor. I love his short stories (more than I love his novels). Early influences were Katherine Anne Porter, Willa Cather, among others. Some contemporary writers whose work I consistently love: Elizabeth Strout, Ann Patchett, Louise Erdrich, Donal Ryan, Mohsin Hamid, Colson Whitehead. It's impossible to pick a favorite.

Amazing characters development, psychology and research. After finishing the book I thought these were real people I knew. I shared with my friends & family the part when when Anne confronts Francis Gleeson while she is baby sitting the kids. Your potrayal of her body language, emotions and the simple qs she asks 'Can you forgive me...?' was so profound. What was your inspiration or guidance for this part?

Given the closeness and yet distance between these two families central to the story line, this had almost a "Romeo and Juliet" feel to it. Is that a correct interpretation, or has it been too long since I've read R&J to recall? It also felt as though there was a psychological pathology to both families, although clearly to vastly different degrees. Thank you for this wonderful book. It was truly fantastic.
