Jennifer Ireland Shearer
Jennifer Ireland Shearer asked Lisa McMann:

Dear Lisa, First, I want to thank you for your books. I am actually 45, a mom of four, who had a significant health issue blindside me. During this time, my youngest, 13, shared the first book in the Unwanteds series. I have now read all, plus all Quests. My question is, do you outline your stories first? Additionally, how do you get unstuck when the idas are not fully flowing? Thank-you, Jennifer

Lisa McMann Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for reading my books! I'm so sorry about your health issue and hope it improves for you.

I do not outline first, but I do write a couple of paragraphs about the things that have to happen in the book, and I always figure out how it ends in advance so I have a direction to write in.

When the ideas aren't flowing, instead of fretting I allow it and take that as a sign that I need to get inspired by other people's art. So I'll read a book or go to the movies or an art museum. That usually helps get my mind moving again.

Best wishes!
