Goodreads asked Rhys Hughes:

What books are on your summer reading list this year?

Rhys Hughes Summer is over, but I have been working my way through a few short story collections that are proving to be very worthwhile, especially THE PENGUIN BOOK OF JAPANESE STORIES, the COMPLETE STORIES of Isaac Bashevis Singer, and LIFE IS A DREAM by Gyula Krudy. I'm not in a rush to finish these. I am enjoying them too much and intend to progress through all three at a leisurely pace.

As for novels, John Steinbeck's SWEET THURSDAY is one I have just begun reading. It's a sequel to CANNERY ROW, which I read at the start of the year and absolutely loved. When I have finished it, I will probably read either R.K. Narayan's THE PAINTER OF SIGNS or maybe another Kinky Friedman crime novel.
