Hi! I would like to ask how you get a publisher to publish your book? Do you call? Text? Email? Or walk up to their door?
Lois McMaster Bujold
First, you have to write and finish a good book.
Next, in this day of the internet, go to the publisher's website appropriate to your work and look for their particular submission guidelines and directions. Follow same. Prepare to wait a long time.
There are lots of writers' groups and other help online these days. I can't say much about them because I am not plugged into them myself; commenters below may have some more current tips. But a good place to start for level-headed advice is http://www.pcwrede.com/blog/
Begin at the beginning, read all the posts, and then, if any question is still unanswered, you can float it. (Do read first, so you won't be asking a question that's been answered eight times already.)
That should keep you busy for a while...

Happy, happy, happy that I am holding my hardback copy of Penric's Progress in my hand! Now I can loan the dead tree version to my daughters, as I couldn't with the eBooks. I seriously thought about a signed copy from Uncle Hugo's, double the cost precludes. :-( I'm praying that the "Orphans of Raspay" is going to appear this way as well? Cheers from a hazy, smoky Melbourne, Peter L

Ask#2 ~ In short, please help me know that choosing to write could possibly create something for me to hold onto. I'm 49, I've done slayed my demons and am no longer running; however, as pleased as I am with my life's progress, my forward momentum is gone. I feel I am lost without a compass. I've always wanted to write but I have no audience. Should I invent one? ~ In advance, I thank you for any thoughts. Christine
