La Voisin was *so* much more than just a French fortune teller! She lead an underground network of "sorcerers" and "black magic practitioners" in Paris who provided poisons, aphrodisiacs, and abortions. She was said to also conduct magical services and arranged black masses for her aristocratic clients. Not to mention her part in The Affair of Poisons. Sort of like the Salem Witch Hunts, but with Poisoners instead of Witches.
Look her up! She's fascinating!

I think the general assumption is that she's the equivalent of La Dame des Sorcières for the Dame Rouge? I know that La Voisin was a french fortune-teller in the 17th century, and that it literally translates to "The Neighbor" so I'm getting that vibe, otherwise La Voisin was not previously mentioned in the novel.

i just finished the book too, and not having heard the name 'la voisin' before, i was confused too, but i think, we would find out more about her in the second book of the series - 'blood and honey'. although, as said in the previous comments, we can make the assumption that she is the 'leader/chief' of the dame rouge.

She was briefly mentioned by the Archbishop or one of the Chasseurs as the leader of the Dame Rouge coven (the equivalent of Morgane LeBlanc as Dame de Socières for the Dames Blanches coven).
