Christine Hatfield
Christine Hatfield asked Susan Vreeland:

What do you do for fun?

Susan Vreeland Oh my goodness! I work in my garden. Since I live in San Diego which has experienced a three-year drought, most of my plants are succulents. I am amazed by the variety of them. They are not without need to be cared for, but they don't require as much water as flowers.

I love to take walks on the beach, but I don't do that often enough. I watch movies that are recommended to me--not action films or mysteries. Recently I enjoyed My Old Lady and Journey of a Thousand Steps, both of which take place in France. I go out to dinner with friends.

I travel. Recently my husband and I went to Prague and Berlin for the first time. Before that we went to Sicily and met our Dutch friends in Rome. In November we will go to Milan and Torino because my Italian publisher invited me to some book events, but we will enjoy the Almafi Coast and its gorgeous sea views as well. While in Europe, and in large cities in the US, I love to go to art museums. And almost every June, we camp in Yosemite National Park with friends. In September of next year I will lead a Lisette's List tour for 15 people to Paris and Provence to show them where scenes took place in the book.

For the last several years my reading has been related to the books I was writing, but I will soon embark on a program of reading the books I let slip by me over the last decade while I was writing.
