Goodreads asked Alexis-Morgan Roark:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Alexis-Morgan Roark Be authentic both to your voice and your process. Never, ever compare yourself to anyone. Again, both in your voice and process. Research and plotting should not replace writing time. Ever. Recognize those items, if they are part of your writing process, are just that-PART of your overall process.

A HUGE part of that process is writing. If you are planning, you are not writing. You are planning for your writing.

Make the time to write then write and only write. Otherwise, and I am speaking from experience here, you will find yourself with all kinds of amazing charts, graphs, timelines, vision boards, worksheets, cards, playlists, etc. and not one fracking word of your story actually written!
