Goodreads asked Haley Walden:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Haley Walden My great-uncle was the family historian on his side of the family, whom they called The Witness Tree. I thought the name was intriguing--as well as the fact that his grandmother was the historian before him, and she chose him to take her place when he was an infant. That side of the family was descended from Scottish clans, and they've continued to keep small remnants of past family culture alive. I started following the threads of an idea that sparked as a result of several conversations surrounding my great-uncle, and--to make a very long, convoluted story short--I created the fictional world of Rodhlan and Lira's inherited, magical title: The Witness Tree. My book and the world I've crafted are a far cry from that little bit of family history, but it goes to show how a tiny seed can spark an entire forest.
