My great-uncle was the family historian on his side of the family, whom they called The Witness Tree. I thought the name was intriguing--as well as the fact that his grandmother was the historian before him, and she chose him to take her place when he was an infant. That side of the family was descended from Scottish clans, and they've continued to keep small remnants of past family culture alive. I started following the threads of an idea that sparked as a result of several conversations surrounding my great-uncle, and--to make a very long, convoluted story short--I created the fictional world of Rodhlan and Lira's inherited, magical title: The Witness Tree. My book and the world I've crafted are a far cry from that little bit of family history, but it goes to show how a tiny seed can spark an entire forest.

Listening to music, reading other books and stories in my genre, and watching movies. I'm always inspired by the brilliant art others create, and knowing what they accomplished helps light my fire, too.

Don't stop writing. I know life can get busy, but if you stop (like I did for a little while), you'll regret it. So just keep going.

I love creating characters who come to feel more like my friends than my creations. They truly have minds of their own (and they have hijacked my stories more times than I can count).

I'm getting ready to launch the Defender of Histories ARC, working on the marketing and line edits for the same, and digging into the first draft of Keeper of Keys, book 2 in the series.

Sometimes, writing nonsense helps--brain-dumping to see if I can clear my head. Usually, though, I like to watch a movie or read a book instead.

I think I would go to Hobbiton to hang out with Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. So many shenanigans to be had. ;)
